Isabella Padillo is The Herald’s girls’ spring sport athlete of the week

Isabella Padillo of the Northwestern soccer team is The Herald’s girls’ spring sport athlete of the week.

Padillo earned just over 24 percent of the vote. She edged out Auri French of the Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team, who accumulated 21 percent of the vote.

Below are the results and the award finalists.

Athlete of the week finalists

Elizabeth Cromer, Northwestern track: The Northwestern senior finished first in the discus and shotput at the Trojan Relays’ Preseason Invitational at Northwestern on March 7.

Cromer won the discus with a personal-best 109-7 throw, and she won the shotput with a personal-record 32-10.5.

Auri French, Fort Mill lacrosse: The Fort Mill sophomore scored seven goals and had one assist in wins over Clover, Nation Ford and Providence Day this week.

French started the week with four goals and two assists in an 18-3 win over Providence Day on March 2.

Two days later, French scored three goals and had one assist in a 16-0 win at Nation Ford.

French also had three goals and one assist in a 12-9 victory at Clover on March 5.

French has 18 goals and seven assists for Fort Mill (5-0) this season.

Camryn Lorick, Nation Ford track: The Nation Ford junior jumped 5-4 to win the high jump at the Trojan Relays’ Preseason Invitational at Northwestern on Mar. 7.

Lorick also helped Nation Ford to a 16-point victory at the same meet.

Lorick’s jump is the No. 1 in the state this outdoor season.

Amelia McCauley, Clover lacrosse: The Clover junior had nine goals in two games as the Blue Eagles split games with Byrnes and Fort Mill this week.

McCauley started the week with six goals and two assists in a 15-1 win at Byrnes on March 4.

The next day, McCauley had three goals in a 12-9 loss to Fort Mill.

McCauley has 16 goals and four assists for Clover (3-1) this season.

Randi Neal, South Pointe basketball: The 5-foot-9 senior scored 22 points to go with two rebounds, two assists and a steal in South Pointe’s 70-57 loss to North Augusta in the S.C. 4A state championship game at Colonial Life Center on March 7.

Neal, an all-state pick, averaged 17.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game for South Pointe (27-3) this season.

Isabella Padillo, Northwestern soccer: The Northwestern senior midfielder scored a goal to help the Trojans tie Brookland-Cayce, 1-1, on Mar. 7.

Northwestern (0-0-2) also tied Gilbert, 0-0, the same day.

Aylesha Wade, Clover basketball: The 5-foot-9 junior scored 12 points and seven rebounds in a 42-38 loss to Goose Creek in the S.C. 5A state championship game at Colonial Life Center on Mar. 6.

Wade, an all-state pick, averaged 21 points, four rebound, three assists and three steals per game for Clover (28-3) this season.
