Alyssa Hankerson of the Rock Hill girls’ basketball team is The Herald’s Athlete of the Week.

The 5-foot-6 freshman had 19 points — including five threes — to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead Rock Hill to a 77-14 win over River Bluff on Dec. 4. Hankerson also had 18 points in a 78-66 loss to Keenan this past weekend. The Bearcats, as of Thursday afternoon, are 7-2.

There were 44, 999 votes cast in this week’s poll. Hankerson earned 31.3% of the vote, Camille Kerridge of the Nation Ford girls’ basketball team earned 30.5% of the vote and Trent Bowser of Chester wrestling earned 11.1% of the vote.

Meet this week’s finalists

Brenden Alexander, Lancaster wrestling. The sophomore went 6-0 in his 152-pound weight class this week: Alexander had four pins, one win-by-decision and one win-by-forfeit in matches against Airport, Blythewood, Camden, Eau Claire, Heathwood Hall and North Central. The Lancaster wrestling team is also 6-0 this season.

Maurice Bonneau, Rock Hill wrestling. The Bearcat senior went 5-1 to finish third in the 220-pound weight class at the Southern Slam Invitational at Eastside High on Dec. 4. Bonneau is 8-2 overall this season.

Trent Bowser, Chester wrestling. The senior who competes at the 132 weight division went 2-0 — both wins by pinfall — this week. One of those victories included a win over Camden’s Jamie Venezuela, the reigning 3A state runner-up. Bowser got his two wins in a quad meet with Buford, Christ Church and Camden on Dec. 1.

Zy Brown, York boys’ basketball. The Cougar senior guard seems to have picked up right where he left off last season: Brown had 24 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals in a 73-56 loss at Chester on Nov. 30. He also had 20 points, two rebounds and two steals in a 64-34 loss to Nation Ford on Dec. 3. York is 0-2.

Omari Bryson, Northwestern boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-2 senior had 24 points and 11 rebounds — and hit three 3-pointers — in a 58-39 win at Spartanburg on Nov. 30. Bryson is averaging 19.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and two steals per game for a Northwestern team that is still a perfect 4-0 this season.

Darby Grigg, Northwestern girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-7 junior had 20 points, eight steals, three rebounds and three assists in a 55-31 victory at Spartanburg on Nov. 30. Northwestern is 1-0 this season.

Jaden Hicklin, South Pointe boys’ basketball. The senior had 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 47-44 loss to Clover on Dec. 1. South Pointe is 0-1 this season.

Camille Kerridge, Nation Ford girls’ basketball. The Falcon freshman guard had 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and six steals to lead Nation Ford to a 47-35 win at York on Dec. 3. Kerridge is averaging 28.2 points per game for Nation Ford (2-4) this season.

KeMarja Peay, Lancaster girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-9 freshman was special this past week: Peay had 15 points and eight rebounds in a 75-17 win over Central Pageland on Nov. 30. She then had 17 points (all in the second half) to go with six rebounds in a 60-56 loss at Monroe. And then she finished off the week with 28 points and five rebounds in a 66-31 win at Chester on Dec. 3. Peay is averaging 21.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for Lancaster this season.

Ca’Darrius Sowell, Andrew Jackson boys’ basketball. Sowell was busy this week: The 6-foot-2 senior guard had 41 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and five assists in a 76-62 win at Indian Land on Nov. 29. He followed that up with 27 points, five assists and four steals in a 68-33 victory over Lewisville on Nov. 30. And then to finish off the week? Sowell notched 39 points, four rebounds and three steals in a 76-67 loss at Great Falls on Dec. 3. Sowell is averaging 33 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game for Andrew Jackson (4-2) this season.

Skyla Tuthill, Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-10 freshman had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Copperheads to a 51-49 win over Marvin Ridge on Nov. 29. She also had 27 points in a 65-30 win at Fort Mill on Nov. 30. The Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball team is 4-1 thus far this season.
