Drue Shipman of the Chester wrestling team is The Herald’s Athlete of the Week.

The 138-pound Cyclone junior went a perfect 10-0 with seven pins last week. Shipman beat his opponents from Emerald and Gilbert on Dec. 7; then Gaffney, Lugoff-Elgin and Rock Hill on Dec. 8; and then Buford, Cheraw, Chesterfield, Northwestern and TL Hanna on Dec. 11.

There were 33, 529 votes tallied in this week’s poll. Shipman earned 44% of the vote; NyKeriAsia “Peaches” Coleman of the Lancaster girls’ basketball team finished with 21.4% of the vote; and Carrigan McCloud of the Indian Land girls’ basketball team finished with 10.4% of the vote.

Lawrence Bartee, Clover boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-11 senior and Winthrop University commit had two big games last week. Against Northwestern on Dec. 7, Bartee had eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks in a 50-48 win. He also had 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in a 64-41 victory over York on Dec. 10.

Dawson Cashier, Rock Hill wrestling. The Bearcat senior won the 170-pound title at the Hillcrest Invitational on Dec. 11. Cashier won four matches Saturday — the final victory coming against Spartanburg’s Bank Mullen by decision for the tournament championship. He also went 3-1 at the Red Devil Super Duals at Newton Conover on Dec. 10.

NyKeriAsia “Peaches” Coleman, Lancaster girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-6 senior had three big games this past week: Coleman had 18 points in a 60-27 win at Central Pageland on Dec. 7. The next night, she poured in a career-high 28 points to go with three rebounds and one assist in a 58-56 loss at Northwestern. Her final performance? Coleman scored 14 points in a win over Blythewood on Dec. 10. Coleman is averaging 17.8 points per game for Lancaster through six games this season.

Landon Foley, Catawba Ridge boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-3 sophomore had a season-high 13 points and four rebounds in a 41-37 win over Fort Mill on Dec. 10. Foley also had 10 points and three rebounds in a 45-28 win at Nation Ford on Dec. 7. Foley is averaging 7.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for Catawba Ridge this season.

JJ Hicklin, South Pointe boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-3 senior averaged nearly a double-double this past week: Hicklin notched 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 60-33 win at Lower Richland on Dec. 7. He also recorded 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 57-47 victory at Rock Hill on Dec. 10. Hicklin is averaging 21.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for South Pointe this season.

Grayson Kirk, Lancaster boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-2 junior had a big week: Kirk had 16 points in a 64-49 win at Central Pageland on Dec. 7. He had 14 points in a 44-42 victory at Northwestern on Dec. 8, and then 28 points in a 70-63 win over Blythewood on Dec. 10. Lancaster has won seven straight games.

Carrigan McCloud, Indian Land girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-10 sophomore had a career-high 35 points to go with 13 rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block to lead Indian Land to a 62-30 win over Fort Mill on Dec. 7. McCloud is averaging 20 points, nine rebounds and two steals per game for the Warriors this season.

Ca’Darrius Sowell, Andrew Jackson boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-2 senior guard had 31 points and three rebounds in a 52-48 loss at Rock Hill on Dec. 6. He also scored 24 points and had five assists in a 59-40 win over Great Falls on Dec. 10. On the season? Sowell is averaging 31.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists — scoring 30 or more points in five games, including a 41-point performance against Indian Land on Nov. 29.

Gracie Wilson, Rock Hill girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-6 senior had 13 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 75-16 win over Andrew Jackson on Dec. 6. She also had 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 59-32 victory over South Pointe on Dec. 10. Wilson is averaging 13.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game for Rock Hill this season.
