Ladarian McCree of the York Prep boys’ basketball team is The Herald’s Athlete of the Week.

The 5-foot-11 senior scored a team-high 20 points to go with six assists to lead York Prep to an 87-49 win over Philip Simmons in the third round of the 2A state playoffs on Feb. 24. (YPA also notched a 2A Lower State championship on Monday afternoon in Florence.)

McCree will next be in action when he and the Patriots play for a 2A state championship against Gray Collegiate Academy at USC Aiken on Saturday at 2 p.m.

There were 42,558 votes cast in this week’s poll. McCree received 51% of the vote; Rock Hill’s Gracie Wilson earned 36% of the vote; and Nywun Cloud of Great Falls earned 11% of the vote.

Meet the finalists

Yannis Charles, Clover wrestling. The Blue Eagle junior earned the 5A state runner-up at 145 pounds at the Anderson Civic Center on Feb. 26. Charles made it to the 5A state championship match for the second consecutive season.

Nywun Cloud, Great Falls boys’ basketball. The 6-foot-1 senior scored 22 points in a 76-67 loss to Calhoun County in the 1A Upper State Championship game at Bob Jones University on Feb. 26. Cloud also scored 17 points in a 66-60 victory over CA Johnson in the 1A state quarterfinals on Feb. 22. Cloud averaged 18 points per game for Great Falls (16-9) this season.

Makailah Davis, Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-4 freshman scored 20 points to help Catawba Ridge to a 55-49 win over AC Flora in the third round of the 4A state playoffs on Feb. 23. Catawba Ridge (23-2) will play in its first Upper State title game in its three-year history on Tuesday, March 1.

Dylan Layton, Indian Land wrestling. The Warrior senior won his third-straight wrestling state championship, this time winning the 4A 145-pound title at Anderson Civic Center on Feb. 26. Layton will continue his academic and wrestling career at Cleveland State University.

Isaac McLellan, Northwestern wrestling. The Trojan senior won his second-straight 5A state championship at 220 pounds at the Anderson Civic Center on Feb. 26. McLellan finished the season 23-1 overall.

Gracie Wilson, Rock Hill girls’ basketball. The 5-foot-6 senior scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead Rock Hill to a 67-32 win at JL Mann in the third round of the 5A state playoffs on Feb. 22. Wilson also had 14 points — including four 3-pointers — and three rebounds in a 75-51 win over Mauldin in the 5A Upper State championship game at Bob Jones University on Feb. 26. Rock Hill will take on Summerville in the 5A state championship game at USC Aiken on March 3.
