Ten named BSN Sports Tri-County Players of the Week for Aug. 18 games
4A, 5A classifications
Offensive player of the week: Garrett Miller, Clover - senior QB completed 24 of 28 passes for 387 yards and three touchdowns. Miller added a rushing touchdown in the Blue Eagles’ win over Ashbrook.
Defensive player of the week: Savion White, South Pointe and Michael Peterson, Nation Ford - White made 13 tackles, with three for a loss, and intercepted a pass in the Stallions’ win over Northwestern. Peterson, a linebacker, recorded 15 tackles, including two for a loss, and a sack in the Falcons’ loss to Irmo.
Offensive lineman of the week: Jaydon Collins, South Pointe - senior lineman helped South Pointe rush for 349 yards in a 32-point win over rival Northwestern.
Defensive lineman of the week: N/A
Special teams player of the week: Kyle Romenick, Fort Mill - punter hit five kicks for a 44-yard average during the Yellow Jackets’ loss to Spring Valley.
1A, 2A, 3A classifications
Offensive player of the week: Quentin Sanders, Lewisville - senior had seven catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns, and carried the ball 17 times for 77 yards and another touchdown. Sanders also completed one pass for another touchdown, a 31-yard effort. He had 260 yards and four touchdowns total on 25 offensive touches.
Defensive player of the week: Carlito McGraw, Lewisville - linebacker had 13 tackles, including 10 primaries, a tackle-for-loss and an interception returned for 46 yards in the Lions’ win over Andrew Jackson.
Offensive lineman of the week: Michael Csuhta, Indian Land - making his first varsity football start as a ninth grader, Csuhta graded 89 percent during the Warriors’ loss to Lancaster.
Defensive lineman of the week: Tyrus McCullough, Lewisville - McCullough recorded 12 tackles, with two for a loss, a sack and forced and recovered a fumble during a busy outing for the Lions against Andrew Jackson.
Special teams player of the week: Jerel Hill, Chester - Hill returned four kickoffs for 80 yards total and also made a pair of solo tackles on kickoff coverage during the Cyclones’ loss to Westwood.
Winners of the BSN Sports Tri-County Players of the Week awards are voted on by the member coaches of the Tri-County Coaches Association each Tuesday during the high school football season.
