Northwestern’s Kanoah Vinesett is The Herald’s Week 1 Football Player of the Week
The results are in: Junior Northwestern kicker Kanoah Vinesett is The Herald’s Football Player of the Week from the opening slate of high school football games.
Vinesett nailed four extra points and two field goals in his team’s win over Ridge View in Northwestern’s season-opener last weekend. The first field goal was from 24 yards, and the second one was from 53 yards just before halftime, which broke the previous school record by three yards. He also forced three touchbacks on kickoffs.
There were 13,990 votes cast in this week’s poll: Vinesett notched 39% of the vote; Clover defensive back Chance Mackey earned 33% of the vote; and Chester’s Zan Dunham received 14% of the vote.
Vinesett’s kicking opportunities were made possible by an effective Northwestern offense in Week 1. The Trojans’ offensive line didn’t allow a sack against Ridge View, and the team also saw great efforts from running back Jaylen Chavis — who finished with 156 all purpose yards and two touchdowns — and others.
