Blake Brice of Andrew Jackson has been voted The Herald’s Football Player of the Week
Blake Brice of the Andrew Jackson football team has been voted The Herald’s Football Player of the Week.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound kicker had a 29-yard field goal and seven extra points to lead Andrew Jackson to a 52-7 homecoming victory over North Central on Oct. 8. Brice also had a tackle, two touchbacks on kickoffs and a 49-yard punt that was downed on the 1-yard line in the same game.
There were 25,489 votes cast in this week’s poll. Brice earned 43.5% of the vote; Kanoah Vinesett of Northwestern earned 34% of the vote; and Carson Black earned 12.1% of the vote.
Brice and the Volunteers take on a tough Cheraw team on Friday night.

Meet this week’s finalists
Carson Black, Nation Ford quarterback. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback completed 23 of 30 passes for 351 yards and five touchdowns to lead Nation Ford to a 56-27 win over Boiling Springs on Oct. 8. Black has passed for 1,539 yards and 18 touchdowns for a Nation Ford team (4-3) that has won three straight games.

Ty Chambers, South Pointe linebacker. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound senior linebacker had 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and two fumble recoveries — one of which he returned for a touchdown — to help South Pointe roll to 51-13 win at Lancaster on Oct. 8. South Pointe is 5-1 this season.
Jevon Long, York receiver. The speedy wide receiver had five catches for 105 yards and a touchdown to help York to a 19-13 win over Catawba Ridge on Oct. 8. Long has notched 19 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns for a York team (5-1) that has won five straight games after losing its season-opener at Cox Mill.
Kanoah Vinesett, Northwestern kicker. The 6-foot, 185-pound senior kicker had two field goals, two extra points and five touchbacks on five kickoffs as Northwestern blanked Blythewood 28-0 on Oct. 8. The win was the Trojans’ seventh straight. Vinesett was 2 for 3 on field goals, making his two from 21 and 25 yards and missing his one from 52 yards. The N.C. State commit also made two extra points — extending his state record streak to 80 consecutive point-after-touchdowns made, per the Northwestern coaching staff. Northwestern is 7-1 this season.
