Meet the finalists
Tyler Jones, Catawba Ridge running back.
Drew Hardin, Indian Land receiver. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound senior wideout had a final high school football game to remember: He earned nine catches for 128 yards and a touchdown in 34-10 loss at AC Flora in the first round of the 4A playoffs on Nov. 5. Hardin also had seven tackles from his safety position in the same game. Indian Land finished the season at 5-4.
Waymond Jenerette, South Pointe receiver. The prolific senior wide receiver had seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown to lead South Pointe to 42-12 win over Richland Northeast in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Nov. 5. Jenerette (6-foot, 165-pounds) has 65 catches for 1,022 yards and 12 touchdowns for South Pointe (8-1) this season. He’s also only the second South Pointe receiver in school history to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
Jevon Long, York receiver. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound senior had seven catches for 85 yards in a 21-10 loss to Irmo in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Nov. 5. York finished the season 7-4.
Kanoah Vinesett, Northwestern kicker. The Trojans’ kicker had six touchbacks on kickoffs, seven extra points and a 46-yard field goal to lead Northwestern to 52-7 win over Boiling Springs in the first round of the 5A state playoffs on Nov. 5. Vinesett is an N.C. State commit and a North-South All-Star game selection, and he’s a huge reason why Northwestern (10-1) has won 10 straight games.

How to nominate
Athlete of the Week awards highlight high school players with outstanding performances. The goal is to recognize all athletes — both the accomplished and the underrated/underappreciated players. If you want to suggest someone to be included in the ballot in future weeks, send an email to Jay Edwards at edwardswork23@gmail.com. Please include the athlete’s name, school, class and applicable game performance statistics. Coaches must be willing to verify information. The Herald reserves the right to remove a name from the poll at its discretion.
Editor’s note: A previous version of the story incorrectly stated a South Pointe record. Waymond Jenerette is only the second player to notch over 1,000 receiving yards in a season, not in a career.
