1 child still hospitalized after deadly crash near York
One of three children who were in avehicle involved in the March 14 two-vehicle crash near York remains hospitalized.
Brooklyn Lindsay, 8, is in good condition in Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, according to a spokesman for Carolinas HealthCare System.
Erin Lindsay, the child’s mother, said her daughter has had two major surgeries, one involving a lower vertebrate pressing on her spine and another for internal stomach injuries.
Brooklyn started therapy Tuesday to re-learn how to walk, her mother said.
Brooklyn, Jordan Jenkins, 12, and Hadden Fuller-Jenkins, 6, were in a sport utility vehicle driven by Shaneka M. Jenkins of Wellford. They were on their way from Rock Hill to Spartanburg when the accident happened on March 14, Erin Lindsay said.
The other vehicle was driven by Angela Kim Privette, 50, of York. Privette was heading south on Alexander Love Highway when a GPS unit fell off the windshield of her sport utility vehicle, according to a York police report.
As Privette reached down to retrieve the GPS her SUV crossed over the yellow line and a turning lane, entering the northbound lane on Alexander Love Highway. Privette’s SUV struck the SUV driven by Jenkins head-on, according to the police report.
Devin McGraw, 3, the passenger in Privette’s car, died March 18 at Levine Children’s Hospital.
Erin Lindsay said the two other children traveling with Shaneka Jenkins are recovering from injuries sustained in the crash and are no longer hospitalized.
Jordan Jenkins was released from Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill after treatment for injuries to her left ankle and bruised ribs.
“She is terrified. She won’t get in the front seat of a car, it has to be the back seat,” Erin Lindsay said. “We have a long road ahead of us,” Erin Lindsay said.
Hadden Fuller-Jenkins, a cousin of Brooklyn and Jordan, has had surgery on his mouth, has bruised ribs and stomach problems, Erin Lindsay said.
Shaneka Jenkins was hospitalized and released after sustaining a broken foot and bruised ribs, Erin Lindsay said.
York police and the solicitor’s office are investigating the accident.
