This Charlotte retailer plans to set up shop this fall on Main Street in Fort Mill
A multi-location Charlotte boutique retailer has announced plans to cross the South Carolina border into Fort Mill.
The fourth Moxie Mercantile will open at 219 Main Street in Fort Mill. It’s a space with a long retail past, most recently in antiques and furnishings. It’s beside Local Dish and near other Main Street staples -- Hobos, Town Tavern, The Improper Pig and Amor Artis Brewing.
The women’s apparel and lifestyle products store is aiming for an October opening, according to a company release. Owner Michelle Castelloe has Moxie locations in Plaza Midwood, Davidson and Matthews in the Charlotte area. Castelloe also has the Betty brand of children’s and women’s apparel that launched last fall.
“I was drawn to Fort Mill because of the preserved historic downtown,” Castelloe said in the release. “I love being in small cities where I personally enjoy spending time and have the opportunity to build relationships with the community. I’m excited to support and collaborate with the area’s local creators, businesses and nonprofits.”
Last fall Kuester Commercial Real Estate applied to the town for a $2.7 million remodel at 219 and 221 Main St to prepare it for new business. Kuester was integral in Main Street revitalization plans that brough Amor Artis, Improper Pig and other sites.
The new Moxie location is 1,900 square feet. Original wood flooring, exposed brick and other historic elements of the site will remain when the new business opens.
The Moxie brand dates back to 2015.
Remodeling plans submitted to the town last fall showed two tenant spaces on the first floor, one at about 2,500 square feet and the other at more than 1,700 square feet. Second floor plans showed an outdoor patio and office suites.
