A new ax-throwing venue set to open in Fort Mill, with a Rock Hill site in the works
A new Fort Mill attraction opens next week — one where guests can come in, get a drink and throw axes.
Craft Axe Throwing will host a ribbon-cutting July 28. Its official opening is July 30. The site at 112 Academy St. is just off Main Street, near the town’s police department. It will have a bar and 10 throwing lanes.
“After a long wait, we are thrilled to finally open our doors in Fort Mill,” manager Joseph Rempe said in an opening announcement. “We will be bringing a unique and fun experience to Fort Mill that everyone can enjoy.”
Ax-throwing involves giant targets, like dartboards but with axes. The closer a thrower gets to the bullseye, the more points are scored. Individual, social, corporate and league play are options.
Trained instructors will help groups. No throwing experience is necessary.
Craft Axe Throwing has a dozen locations in five states. There are five in South Carolina, including the new Fort Mill spot. Others are in Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg and Lexington.
Five of the seven more planned sites for the Greenville-based company are in the Carolinas, including one each in Rock Hill and Charlotte.
Hours vary by location. The Fort Mill site will be open 4-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2-9 p.m. Sunday. Lanes can be booked online. Ages 10 and older can participate, though anyone 18 and younger will need a guardian present. Some evening hours will be restricted to ages 16 and older.
Outside alcohol isn’t allowed.
