Reception Monday for retiring Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols
After 20 years as Rock Hill’s mayor, Doug Echols is retiring.
Community members can meet and talk with Echols from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday during a reception at City Hall, 155 Johnston Street in Rock Hill.
The drop-in reception will feature a video highlighting Echols’ work in Rock Hill and a presentation, a release states.
Due to the reception, the citizen’s hearing will be pushed back to 5:45 p.m. The city council meeting will start at 6 p.m.
Echols also served for eight years on the Rock Hill City Council before becoming mayor in 1998.
Echols’ last official meeting as mayor is Jan. 8, 2018. He will call the meeting to order and preside over any old business before the city’s mayor-elect, John Gettys, and new city council member Nikita Jackson are sworn in.
