Event cancellations, closings continue in York County due to Florence

As Hurricane Florence, now a tropical storm, impacts the Carolinas coast, there have been local cancellations.


Carowinds is closed Saturday and Sunday. The park reopens on Sept. 21. Already purchased tickets will be valid for use until Oct. 14.

Piedmont Medical Center

Piedmont Medical Center remains open to care for patients with medical needs. In an effort to keep first responders safe, PMC EMS will pull all response vehicles from the roads if there are sustained winds of 45 mph.

Piedmont Urgent Care Center at Baxter Village and Piedmont West Urgent Care Center in York closed at 12:30 p.m Friday. Both remained closed Saturday morning. Check the website or contact the location for closure updates.

The following Piedmont-affiliated practices will reopen Monday: Carolina OB/GYN, Catawba-Piedmont Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Family Medicine Associates - Clover office, Family Medicine Associates - Piedmont West office; Family Medicine Associates - York office, Fort Mill Family Practice, Infectious Disease Specialists of Piedmont, Lewisville Medical Center, Piedmont Family Practice at Baxter Village, Piedmont Family Practice at Tega Cay, Piedmont Family Practice of Rock Hill, Piedmont General Surgery Associates, Fort Mill GYN & OB and Rock Hill GYN & OB.

Rock Hill Parks and Recreation

All Rock Hill Parks and Recreation facilities, with the exception of Boyd Hill, which is being used as a shelter, are closed until further notice. The fountain at Fountain Park is on idle until winds subside. Updates will be posted to cityofrockhill.com.

Auto shows

Clover Auto Show, scheduled Saturday, has been postponed until Oct. 13.

Masters Car Club and NewKirk Baptist Church benefit Show and Shine, scheduled Saturday, will be Sept. 22 at the church, 175 Museum Road, Rock Hill.

Farmer’s Market

The Old Town Farmer’s Market at Legal Remedy has been canceled for Saturday but will resume the next weekend.


The Main Street Children’s Museum is closed Saturday and Sunday.

All Culture & Heritage Museums sites are closed Saturday and Sunday.


The Anne Springs Close Greenway is closed this weekend. The FLYERS program, Kids Night Out, and scheduled hikes and programs are canceled or rescheduled. Previously scheduled private events at the Greenway will continue.


The Fall Carnival at the Rock Hill Galleria Mall is canceled for the weekend.

Color Run

The Palmetto Center Color Run has postponed its Color Run and Race until Oct. 6 at Walter Elisha Park in Fort Mill. Those registered can pick up race packets at Palmetto Center Oct. 2-5.

York County libraries

All York County libraries are closed Saturday and Sunday.

York County collection

All 16 York County Collection and Recycling centers are closed Saturday.

Winthrop events

The News Literacy and the Future of Journalism featuring Jim Hoagland of the Washington Post and Mary C. Curtis of Roll Call scheduled for Monday is canceled until further notice.

International festival

The St. Anne International Festival scheduled for Friday and Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Bird Street, Rock Hill, has been postponed until October.

Fish fry fundraiser

Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Heckle Boulevard, Rock Hill, has canceled its first fish fry of the season Saturday.

Catawba River trail closings

The city of Rock Hill has closed the following recreation areas until further notice:

River Park: Including all trails and the kayak/canoe launch.

Riverwalk: Kayak/canoe launch, Piedmont Medical Center Trail along the river and mountain bike trails.

Trail Access from Red River Road: Trailhead, parking lot, restrooms near the Norfolk Southern railroad trestle.

York County Animal Shelter orientation

The shelter’s orientation scheduled Saturday has been canceled. A new date has not yet been announced.

Charity yard sale

Sale to Save, sponsored by Stephen Cooley Real Estate Group to raise money for the Humane Society of York County, scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. A date will be announced later.

Aragon reunion

The Aragon Mill Village reunion for residents in the 1940s-’60s scheduled for Saturday at Northside Baptist Church has been canceled.

Lancaster County career fair

Recreation programs, libraries, convenience sites closed Saturday.

Homeless shelter

Sanctuary of Life Outreach Center in Rock Hill is open. Members will provide food and entertainment.
