Man, 39, died in York County crash down embankment near Rock Hill, officials say
A 39-year-old York County man was killed Thursday in a York County crash south of Rock Hill, officials said.
Michael Thomas of Edgemoor died in the crash, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.
The single-vehicle wreck happened at about 9 a.m. on Bechtler Road near Dunlap Roddey Road, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller with the S.C. Highway Patrol. The crash site is near the Chester County line.
Thomas was driving a 2009 Nissan pickup truck and died at the scene, Miller said. Thomas was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck, Miller said.
The truck went off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail, then went down an embankment before striking trees, Miller said.
The York County fatality is the fourth in 2019. Three people died on New Years Day in two separate crashes.
