York County student, 14, found safe after leaving school campus, deputies say

York County Sheriff's Office

York County deputies said a teen who left a school campus Wednesday has been found safe.

Dakota Carter, 14, was found safe shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Carter had last been seen Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. on the campus of Riverwalk Academy between Rock Hill and York, Faris said. Deputies had considered Carter missing, Faris said.

“It is our understanding he walked off from the school,” Faris said during the search.

The area is near Mount Gallant Road and Elderwood Road near the southern shore of Lake Wylie.

Carter is 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, with blond hair and green eyes, Faris said. He was wearing a dark colored sweatshirt with yellow stripes, and jeans, Faris said

Deputies put out a public notice for help on the sheriff’s office Facebook and Twitter social media pages. After Carter was located, the office then issued social media statements saying he was found safe.
