Chester County pedestrian, 16, killed after collision with teen driver, SC troopers say

A 16-year-old male pedestrian was killed in Chester County Friday in a collision with a vehicle driven by a teen, troopers said.

The name of the person who died in the incident on S.C. 901 near Edgemoor south of the York County line has not been released by the Chester County Coroner’s Office. Coroner officials in Chester said the deceased was a male.

The collision happened around 1:20 p.m. on the highway, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was walking south along the shoulder of the road when the vehicle, also heading south, struck the pedestrian and then struck a tree, Miller said.

The driver was injured in the crash and transported to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill for treatment, Miller said.

The driver of the vehicle is 16 years old, Miller said. The name of the driver was not released because the driver is a juvenile, Miller said.

The wreck remains under investigation by the coroner’s office, highway patrol, and the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
