Chester man killed in fatal York County crash south of Rock Hill, officials say

A driver from Chester was killed Sunday night in a fatal York County crash, officials said.

Robert Balmer, 47, of Chester, died at the scene, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner. Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said he assisted with family notifications.

The wreck happened around 9 p.m. on S.C. 324 near Skyline Drive southwest of Rock Hill, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The area is between Rock Hill and the Chester County line, between the Bethesda and Oakdale communities.

Balmer was alone in a 2013 Chrysler sedan when the car went off the left side of the road and hit a mailbox and a concrete pillar, Bolt said.

Balmer was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency workers, Bolt said. He died at the scene, Bolt said.

The S.C. Department of Public Safety and the York County Coroner are investigating the fatal collision.
