It’s Flavor Factory or Fast Frog for the Battle of the Sweet Treats title. Who do you pick?

Round Four of the Battle of the Sweet Treats Bracket

It’s time to pick the best of the bunch. What started as an epicurean array of 16 top York, Lancaster and Chester county dessert sites is now down to two shops — Flavor Factory and Fast Frog Bakery.

Both won matchups by wafer-thin margins to claim spots in the finals. Both took leads in those matchups within hours of Monday’s noon cutoff. For a minute it looked like we’d have to go to an electoral college to sort the more than 50,000 total votes.

The Donut Region gave us a no-doubt, instant classic. The Cupcake Region finish may have been even better.

Flavor Factory topped Windy Hill Orchard in a back-and-forth Donut Region final where each shop received more than 21,000 votes.

The Cupcake Region crown went to Fast Frog Bakery, which lost its lead over Cake Lady Cafe just two hours before voting closed, only to win it back with two minutes remaining. Fast Frog won by just 25 votes.

Now the remaining two shops put it all on the display case tray for one last vote. It’s open now at the link below. Vote as often as you like. The poll will close at noon Thursday. Then look for a special feature on our grand champion in Sunday’s Herald, and online.

Want more?

Like a thin box that only holds a dozen, our area has too much goodness to fit in just one bracket. There are plenty more places to try.

There are Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ and Cinnabon stores in the tri-county. Readers also went with QuikTrip and Publix bakery locations. Some spots are mobile, like Lil Orbits of Lancaster and Kritterz Fritterz.

Home-based options have grown during the pandemic. Just some of them are Carolina Sweets Co., Confection3 Cupcakery, Mesha’s Sweet Treats, Sweet Couture and Sweet Kelly’s Bakery.

There are the homemade cinnamon rolls at Our Kitchen in Chester. The farm fresh donuts at Bush-N-Vine or The Peach Tree Orchard. There’s Dana’s Italian Bakery in York, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea in Indian Land and Sugarlicious in Lake Wylie. There even are coming attractions like B’zzz Cakes in Indian Land.

Options are all but endless. But which is best?

The choice is yours.
