Motorcycle driver dies in SC crash: 2nd fatal motorcycle crash in 8 days in York County
A motorcycle driver was killed Friday in South Carolina in a collision with a pickup truck in York County near Clover, officials said.
Friday’s crash happened around 9:45 a.m. on S.C. 55 near the intersection with S.C. 557 between Clover and Lake Wylie, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist death is the second in York County in eight days.
Both vehicles were heading east on S.C. 55 when the vehicles collided, Miller said. The motorcycle, a 2005 Harley-Davidson, attempted an improper turn, Miller said.
Miller said the driver of the truck and a passenger in the truck, who were both juveniles, were not hurt. The name of the juvenile driver was not released.
No charges have been filed.
The name and residence of the motorcyclist has not yet been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the coroner and highway patrol.
Recent fatal crashes in York County
In South Carolina in 2022, 62 motorcyclists have been killed in highway crashes, S.C. Department of Public Safety statistics show.
On June 7 in an unrelated case, a motorcyclist was killed west of Clover on S.C. 55 in a crash with an SUV, highway patrol troopers said.
The fatal wreck Friday was the second in York County for vehicles of any type in three days.
In an unrelated incident Wednesday, a York County woman died on her 47th birthday in a crash between two cars on Old Limestone Road near York, according to the coroner, law enforcement, and emergency officials.
Friday’s fatal crash is the ninth on York County roads in 2022, according to public safety statistics.
