A $1 million lottery win in Fort Mill keeps paying off for the store that sold it
A $1 million lottery win in Fort Mill didn’t go to a local, but it’s still bringing wins for a local business.
The South Carolina Education Lottery released more information Thursday on a seven-figure win from November. A ticket bought at the 7 Eleven on S.C. 160 West hit all five white balls in what was at the time a record $2 billion drawing. The ticket missed only the Powerball number.
In South Carolina, lottery winners can remain anonymous. According to the education lottery, it was a grandfather from out of town who stopped in the store at 3085 S.C. 160 W. for the drawing on Nov. 8. The grandfather told the lottery a portion of the prize money would pay for grandchildren’s education.
It was the same drawing as when a California ticket hit for the record top prize. Another Fort Mill ticket that day hit four of five digits. Just prior, three straight near misses in Rock Hill saw tickets fall one number short of the record win.
According to the education lottery, Mouine Baba runs the Fort Mill 7 Eleven that sold the $1 million souvenir. Baba told the lottery the biggest prior win from the store was $10,000 but that more people are now coming to the store, day by day.
Baba’s store won a $10,000 commission for selling the ticket. The odds of that $1 million win are 1 in 11,688,054.
