A Gamecock lottery ticket hit big in Chester. But picking Clemson may be the next move
A South Carolina lottery ticket quickly went from garnet and black to all green in Chester.
According to the South Carolina Education Lottery, a $200,000 winner in the Carolina Jackpot game came from the G Mart at 685 Columbia Road in Chester. The anonymous winner told the lottery group he stopped in for a cup of coffee on the way to work and picked up a $5 scratch-off ticket with the Gamecocks logo.
The lottery group calls the winner a “former Carolina fan” who many have a change of heart after the win. The man told the group, according to the lottery, he’d share the winnings with his children and grandchildren.
Odds of the win are 1 in 720,000. It was the third and final top prize for the Carolina Jackpot. Highest remaining prizes (29 of them unclaimed) are $1,000 each. The game runs through mid-March.
The lottery started Carolina Jackpot and Clemson Jackpot which features respective logos and colors of the two large in-state schools. One top prize remains unclaimed in the Clemson version, along with 43 unclaimed winners at $1,000 each.
