1 dead, 1 hurt in head-on crash in Lancaster County, SC troopers say

One man was killed and another person was hurt Thursday in a head-on crash in Lancaster County, officials said.

The identity of the person killed has not been released by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. The deceased person is a man, coroner officials said.

The wreck happened around 10:40 a.m. on S.C. 903 east of the city of Lancaster near Tryon Street, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A Chevy Silverado pickup truck heading west that was passing another vehicle struck an eastbound Ford Expedition head-on, Bolt said.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicless, Bolt said.

The driver of the Expedition was taken to a hospital and later died, Bolt said. The driver of the Silverado was flown by helicopter to a hospital with injuries, Bolt said.

Firefighters from Lancaster County Fire-Rescue, Antioch Volunteer Fire Department, Elgin Volunteer Fire Department and Lancaster Fire Department responded to the scene, said Darren Player, Lancaster County Emergency Management Director.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety and the coroner’s office, officials said.
