Man found dead in Lancaster Police Department parking lot had committed suicide

A man found dead Thursday in the parking lot of the Lancaster Police Department had committed suicide, officials said.

The man shot himself, said Karla Knight-Deese, Lancaster County Coroner.

Deese has not released the man’s name.

Autopsy, toxicology, and other test results are incomplete.

Officers from the Lancaster Police Department found the man’s body inside a vehicle around 9 a.m., according to Kayla Vaughn, spokesperson for the police department. The person is not an employee of the department or affiliated with the department, Vaughn said.

No one else was hurt, officials said. No other details about the incident have been released.

The law center is at 405 E. Arch Street close to downtown Lancaster.

Because the incident happened at the police department, Lancaster police alerted the State Law Enforcement Division to assist, and conduct an independent crime scene and forensic investigation. SLED spokesman Tommy Crosby said Friday the incident remains under investigation BY SLED agents.
