Man dies after car hits pole and tree in Main Street crash in Rock Hill, police say

A driver in a crash Sunday on Main Street in Rock Hill has died, officials said.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on West Main Street near the intersection of Herlong Avenue, the Rock Hill Police Department said in a statement.

The driver was alone in a 2004 Pontiac sedan that hit a utility pole and a tree before ending up in a ditch, said Rock Hill Police Lt. Michael Chavis. The male driver, 25, died at the scene, Chavis said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the person who died.

The fatal collision remains under investigation by the police department and the coroner’s office.
