Woman found dead on her couch in Rock Hill. She was shot in a homicide, cops say
A homicide investigation is ongoing after a woman was found shot to death on a couch in her Rock Hill townhome Friday afternoon, police said.
The victim was found on Winding Way in a neighborhood off Herlong Avenue, said Lt. Michael Chavis of Rock Hill Police Department. The area is in the Millwood Park neighborhood.
She is 48 years old, Chavis said. Police didn’t identify her.
The Herald was the first to report the death investigation shortly after it started after 1 p.m.
The woman’s body was found after police received a report of a person unconscious in the house, Chavis said. After an investigation, police found she had been shot, officers said.
Chavis confirmed the victim had been shot but no other details were released. Police have not said how long it is believed the victim was in the house before she was found. Officers also did not say who found the body.
“This investigation just started and we are pursuing it as a homicide,” Chavis said.
It is unclear if the victim lived alone, Chavis said.
Yellow police tape was up Friday afternoon around townhome buildings at the intersection of Winding Way and Chanting Bird Drive. More tape was around the rear of the building.
Uniformed officers and detectives were on scene and talking to neighbors.
Forensic technicians, crime scene investigators, detectives and patrol units remained at the crime scene Friday afternoon. Officials from the York County Coroner’s Office also were there.
This is a developing story.
