York County motel clerk near Carowinds, NC state line robbed at gunpoint, deputies say
A clerk at a York County motel near the North Carolina state line was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday, deputies said.
The armed robbery happened at Motel 6 off Carowinds Boulevard near Interstate 77 Exit 90, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was holding a gun when he jumped the counter, pointed the weapon at the clerk and took cash from the motel register, Faris said.
Detectives are still investigating. No arrests had been made as of late Wednesday, Faris said.
Responding deputies found the clerk in a bathroom, where she had locked herself after the robbery, according to a sheriff’s office incident report. The clerk was not hurt in the robbery, deputies said.
Surveillance video from the motel shows the suspect with the gun robbing the clerk, according to the incident report.
The suspect fled through a side door of the motel after stealing $185 in cash, deputies said.
The suspect was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black and white shoes, deputies said.
