Rock Hill 17-year-old faces murder after Chester boy, 16, dies in QT shooting
A Rock Hill teen is charged with murder in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy at a QT convenience store Tuesday night, police said.
Police arrested Carnell Mike, 17, on charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a person under age 18, the Rock Hill Police Department said in a statement. Mike is charged as an adult, officials said.
The victim has been identified as Jayden Reid of Chester, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said Wednesday.
Mike was arrested about 20 miles south in rural Chester County with assistance from Chester deputies and State Law Enforcement Division agents, police said.
Officers who responded to the shooting at the QT at 990 S. Cherry Road around 11:30 p.m. found Reid shot in the torso, officials said. The store is located at the intersection of South Cherry Road and Heckle Boulevard in the southern part of the city.
Reid died after being taken to Piedmont Medical Center hospital.
No other information about the case, including any alleged motive or reason for the shooting or why the victim was in Rock Hill, has been released.
