Police have arrested a man from York on allegations of firing shots during a fatal drive-by shooting last month that left a 16-year-old dead and another teen wounded.

Avery O’Brien West died on Pinckney Street May 3 in the shooting around 8:30 p.m. just west of downtown Chester.

Dayvontae Lamont Adams, 25, was arrested Wednesday on charges of murder and attempted murder more than a month after the killing. He was charged based on surveillance video, witness statements, and a statement from a co-defendant in the case, according to arrest warrants from the State Law Enforcement Division obtained by The Herald.

Two other men, John-David Estes, 21, and Quentin Javor Craig Jr., 24, both of Chester County, were arrested shortly after West was killed, according to SLED records.

All three suspects were in a 2014 Ford Focus when they fired guns, according to SLED arrest warrants.

Another teen, 17, whose name has not been released, was wounded in the gunfire.

Even after three arrests in the case, police have not released details about an alleged motive for anyone to open fire on West and the other teen.

The city of Chester is a small, rural city of about 5,000 people around 20 miles south of Rock Hill and York. It has a small police force, but SLED was asked to lead the homicide investigation with help from city police and Chester County deputies.
