Security officer fatally shoots man fighting with his girlfriend, OK cops say
A couple’s argument turned deadly when a boyfriend and security officers exchanged gunfire in a convenience store parking lot, Oklahoma cops said.
Ryan Mitchell, 33, and his girlfriend were arguing in a car when they arrived at a QuikTrip in Tulsa the evening of May 26, police said. Their argument continued into the parking lot and got the attention of those nearby, Tulsa police said in a May 27 Facebook post.
A group got involved and the altercation escalated, according to police. One witness got the attention of a security officer at the store for help.
The security officer approached Mitchell in an attempt to deescalate the situation, but the boyfriend pulled out a handgun, according to police.
An off-duty security officer inside noticed the gun and went to confront the boyfriend in the lot, according to police. The two got into a fight and gunfire broke out between the two security officers and Mitchell, police said.
Bullets fired by the on-duty officer struck Mitchell, police said. He was taken to the hospital where he died, police said. The off-duty officer was also shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
A woman across the street was also struck by a stray bullet and taken to the hospital, police said.
The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine if anyone should be charged, police said.
