A 26-year-old former teacher is accused of engaging in sex acts with a 16-year-old student, Michigan prosecutors said.

Jocelyn Sanroman of Pontiac taught at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township and engaged in sex acts with the 16-year-old male student in 2023, the Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in a June 26 news release.

McClatchy News reached out to the school but did not immediately receive a response.

She told a co-worker about the sex acts, and that teacher reported it to law enforcement, prosecutors said.

“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement.

Sanroman was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a charge that is “punishable by up to 15 years in prison,” prosecutors said.

Waterford Township is a 35-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
