Rock Hill has hired Michael “Ben” Grant as its new fire chief.

Grant, 38, had been a deputy chief with the Rock Hill Fire Department before being promoted to chief in the department that has more than 140 employees at six stations. The city’s population is over 75,000.

Grant’s salary will be $136,993.36, city officials told The Herald in an email.

He has 17 years experience with the fire department. He most recently was the top deputy for operations.

The fire department has been without a chief since Mike Blackmon retired in July after 20 years as chief and over 40 years with the department. The city’s human resources team and city manager conducted a search for the new chief, city spokesperson Katie Quinn said.
