Teen arrested after man killed in midday shooting, Richland County sheriff says

A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 12:30 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 1600 block of Longcreek Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s near Exit 64 on I-26, which is the junction with Broad River Road in Columbia.

Deputies found an unresponsive man who had been shot in the upper body, the sheriff’s department said.

EMS personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene and the Richland County Coroner’s Office was called, according to the release. As of Sunday, the coroner’s office has not publicly identified the victim.

No other injuries were reported.

On Friday, the sheriff’s department said that 18-year-old Jeremiah Bradley was arrested in connection to the shooting. Bradley was arrested without incident Thursday and was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release.

No bond has been set for Bradley, who is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.

After obtaining surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, deputies determined that Bradley encountered the victim and shot at him numerous times, the sheriff’s department said.

Bradley and the victim knew each other prior to Thursday’s shooting, according to the release. There was no word about a motive for the gunfire.

Despite Bradley’s arrest, the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 803-576-3000, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
