Motorcycle driver dies, 2 others hurt in York County SC crash, trooper says

A motorcycle driver died Sunday, and two people were hurt, in a York County collision with a truck near Rock Hill, troopers said.

The crash, which involved a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Ford pickup, happened around 3:30 p.m. on Lesslie Highway, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash site is near U.S. 21 and Interstate 77 southeast of Rock Hill.

The motorcycle was attempting to pass the truck when the vehicles collided, Bolt said.

The name and residence of the motorcyclist killed in the crash has not been released by the York County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the motorcycle died at a hospital after the crash, Bolt said.

The driver of the truck and a 10-year-old child in the truck were transported to a hospital, Bolt said. Another passenger in the truck, a child age 6, was not injured, Bolt said.

The wreck remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety and the coroner’s office.

The fatality is the 15th on York County roads in 2022, public safety statistics show. Six of those fatalities involved drivers of motorcycles, according to public safety department statistics.
