A teenage girl was killed Wednesday when she was hit by a truck while crossing S.C. 9 in Lancaster County, officials said.

The 14-year-old was a student at Buford High School, said Karla Knight-Deese, Lancaster County Coroner.

The coroner’s office is not releasing the girl’s name because of her age.

The collision happened around 4:15 p.m. on S.C. 9 near Potter Road about two miles east of Lancaster, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The girl was attempting to cross the highway on foot when she was struck by the tractor-truck, Miller said.

The driver of the truck was not hurt, Miller said.

The fatal wreck remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
