Boiling Springs 38, Clover 14

A pivotal four-minute stretch provided all the momentum for Boiling Springs as the team scored three touchdowns in the first 4:12 of the second half to take control over the Clover Blue Eagles, who fell 38-14 on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Eagles fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in region play, while Boiling Springs improves to 2-1 overall and in the region.

The young Blue Eagles offense found a spark late in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Joe Boyd led his team to a go-ahead touchdown with 7.3 seconds left to play in the first half. Boyd connected with receivers Darius Bowser, Chance Sanders and Hunter Jaime on the drive to get down to the 1-yard line where Kaevon Gardner plunged into the end zone to give Clover a 7-3 lead at the break.

The game flipped in favor of Boiling Springs in the first four minutes of the second half when the Bulldogs established their ground game. Running back Cam Mills picked up big chunks on the ground and capped the half’s first drive with a touchdown. The ensuing Clover drive ended on an interception returned for a touchdown by Dre’ Pinckney, and after a three-and-out by the Blue Eagles, Boiling Springs scored its third touchdown in 4:12 to take a 24-7 lead.

Mills and Charles McFadden both scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground for the Bulldogs. Clover’s lone score of the second half came on an 8-yard touchdown run from Elijah Farmer.

Clover will return to action next Friday night, Oct. 16, when they travel to Gaffney.
