Rock Hill police car hit by civilian driver a block from station
A Rock Hill police car was involved in a crash with a civilian vehicle Thursday, a block from the police department building, officials said.
The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Black Street and Wilson Street, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The crash site is in downtown Rock Hill near the main U.S. Post Office.
The police officer’s vehicle was heading west on Black Street when it was struck in the back by the other car, Hovis said.
Neither the officer nor the other driver was injured, Hovis said.
The civilian driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions and not having a valid South Carolina driver license, Hovis said.
Lt. Michael Chavis of Rock Hill police said even though the incident was inside the city limits, troopers were called to investigate because the incident involved a Rock Hill police car.
The wreck involving a Rock Hill police vehicle is the second in less than a week. On Sept. 11 a police cruiser and a civilian collided on Anderson Road in an incident where the officer had to be treated for injuries, officials said. The civilian driver was cited in that Sept. 11 crash, troopers said.
