Want to try a new restaurant this week? Here are some options in York County
Online buzz is building for a new Japanese restaurant in Fort Mill, one of several new restaurants in York County.
Groups like Fort Mill Eats on Facebook have been flush with photos and recommendations since the recent opening of Konnichiwa. The Japanese restaurant opened in the former Zaxby’s space in the Baxter area, at S.C. 160 and Pleasant Road.
Ikomang Yasa is president of the family-run Konnichiwa Group with almost a dozen restaurants across the Carolinas and Ohio. There’s also one in Charlotte.
“Our concept and menu is casual dining restaurant and variety of traditional Japanese sushi, steak, bento box, habachi rice bowl and sushi sashimi, nigiri and roll, special konnichiwa ramen soup, chicken wing and seafood,” Yasa said.
Each Konnichiwa location has different varieties of chef specials.
“The most dinners you would try is bento box, because the prices is very reasonable and good for family,” Yasa said. “There’s is a lot of food on it.”
It comes with fried gyoza, fried or steamed rice, mixed vegetables, meats, sushi, California roll or noodle substitute.
There also is the toro, a fatty tuna, along with sea urchin, bluefin tuna, salmon, yellowtail, giant king crabs and more, Yasa said.
Konnichiwa is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Konnichiwa is one of multiple new local eateries. Brooklyn Pizza & Pasta opened earlier this month in Rock Hill. The 133 S. Herlong Ave. restaurant offers by the slice and whole pies. There’s New York style, Sicilian, stuffed and thin crust options. They also have stromboli and calzone.
Another new opening is TWF Burgers. The Gold Hill Crossing spot in Tega Cay offers tenders, wings and fries that lend its name. It’s at 887 Gold Hill Road in Tega Cay.
Eventually the restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to midnight except on Fridays and Saturdays, when it will stay open until 2 a.m. Burgers, shakes and salads also are on the menu.
