Fort Mill business scene keeps growing with new boutique opening on Main Street
Main Street has another grand opening on Friday.
Moxie Mercantile will join the growing business scene with a 10 a.m. opening at 219 Main St., suite 101. The Fort Mill site is the first in South Carolina for the Charlotte-based boutique retailer. Moxie Mercantile also has sites in Davidson and Matthews, North Carolina.
Moxie Mercantile offers apparel, accessories, gifts and home decor. The Fort Mill shop will feature home and lifestyle products. A percentage of grand opening day sales will go to Humane Society of York County.
Owner Michelle Castelloe said in a grand opening announcement the aim at Moxie is to connect local artisans and shoppers, in an environment that fits into and complements the small business community surrounding it.
“This expansion into South Carolina allows us to cultivate new relationships and build a larger community for not only Moxie but also the small business creators we support,” Castelloe said.
The Moxie opening follows the addition of The Flower Bar and fashion boutique Vestique last month. Also on Main, Fortes Mill Eatery opened in February in the former Local Dish spot. It adds to a destination dining area with Hobo’s, Improper Pig, Emmet’s Social Table and Amor Artis Brewing.
Fortes Mill Eatery, or FM Eatery, is the latest offering from Flipside Restaurant Group that includes Flipside Cafe, Flipside Restaurant and Salmeri’s Italian Kitchen. Future plans include Flip Out Burger in Rock Hill.
Recent applications to the town historic review board show even more Main Street plans. In December, the town heard proposals for the Kimbrell’s Furniture building at 232 Main St. and the warehouse beside it at 102 Tom Hall Street. Possibilities included a restaurant or brewery, with outdoor seating to serve one or two tenants. In those discussions the property owner mentioned a vegan restaurant and blues bar as options.
Last year, Whitaker’s applied with the town to put a new neighborhood bar at the Spratt Building site at 215 Main St. It’s still listed as coming soon for the company with sites in Conway and Savannah, Georgia.
