Another new Fort Mill restaurant could add to a growing food scene. Here’s where

Steele Street Station may soon have its anchor restaurant.

A request for commercial appearance review has been submitted to the Fort Mill planning commission, which meets Tuesday night. The new restaurant is called Poppyseed Kitchen, according to the application.

The new space is at 485 Tom Hall St., suite 103.

The site initially was linked to an upscale barbecue restaurant and then a taqueria, taco shop. Neither plan made it to commercial appearance review, a late-stage step and often a formality just ahead of construction or upfitting for a new tenant.

The Steele Street Station at Tom Hall and Steele streets has a Domino’s pizza and 1873 Brewing, plus other non-food businesses. A central restaurant spot in the building has been eyed for a restaurant since the beginning of Steele Street Station four years ago.

The Poppyseed Kitchen plan involves an outdoor concrete patio area with a new black fence around it. Submitted plans show the patio and new restaurant at the central bend of the building.

Poppyseed Kitchen would be one of several planned additions to the Fort Mill food scene. Recent restaurant announcements include The Flower Bar and Whitaker’s neighborhood bar on Main Street. Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shak has plans for the former Coleman’s Garage. The Peach Cobbler Factory also announced several new spots, including one in Fort Mill.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is an addition to the Encompass Health hospital site along Vista and Pleasant roads. The change adds about an acre that will be used for a retention pond. The property borders Pleasant Knoll Middle School athletic fields. Encompass Health is a part of a larger 160-acre mixed-use plan, a 39-bed rehabilitation hospital in its first phase.
